Call for Applications: Researcher & Author (Freelance to Permanent Parttime Opportunity)

Burstock is delighted to spotlight a job within our WB30 project.
WB30 is a policy advocacy initiative dedicated to advancing the accession of the Western Balkans countries into the European Union by 2030. Our work engages with European institutions, national governments, and international stakeholders to promote a stronger, more integrated Europe through enlargement. Primarily, WB30 will write Op-Eds to promote the value of Western Balkans assession to Europe.
In that context, we are seeking to engage a Researcher and Author to prepare a persuasive, evidence-based paper articulating the strategic rationale for EU enlargement to the Western Balkans. This assignment will serve as an initial commission; subject to the quality of the output, a longer-term engagement with WB30 may be offered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Undertake rigorous desk research on political, economic, and security dimensions of EU enlargement and the Western Balkans.
* Draft a comprehensive, structured, and persuasive policy paper targeted to EU policymakers, opinion leaders, and stakeholders.
* Provide clear, evidence-driven analysis supported by credible sources.
* Ensure precision, coherence, and professional standards of policy writing.
Candidate Profile:
* Advanced academic or professional background in international relations, European studies, political science, or related disciplines.
* Proven experience in drafting policy papers, research reports, or analytical briefs.
* Familiarity with EU institutions, policy processes, and enlargement debates.
* Excellent written English to academic standard and French (Preferrable).
* Strong analytical and organisational skills with the ability to deliver high-quality outputs under deadlines.
Terms of Role:
* Initial commission with potential to expand to a project basis.
* Remuneration to be agreed commensurate with experience.
* Potential for ongoing collaboration subject to performance.
