Position Overview
This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a critical team within the International Finance Function. The International Accounting Advisory Team (IAAT) is the International Division’s first point of contact for IFRS and US GAAP technical accounting. The team provides financial oversight, guidance and support, partnering with local operating company finance to deliver practical solutions to operational accounting complexities while maintaining the integrity of the Group’s internal and external reporting. In addition, the team collaborates with Strategy and Development and Tax teams to structure acquisitions and divestments, and supports finance teams with balance‑sheet preparation and integration activities. The IAAT also oversees local group reporting, statutory audit processes, and ensures compliance with deadlines.
Key Tasks And Responsibilities
* Oversee the division’s financial accounting outputs in compliance with CRH’s accounting policies under both IFRS and US GAAP; respond to ad‑hoc technical accounting queries from operational finance, controlling teams, reporting teams, internal audit, tax and treasury.
* Work closely with regional strategy and development teams to structure acquisition and divestment transactions, from due diligence through to deal completion and subsequent integration.
* Partner with the CRH Group Accounting Advisory team in Dublin to provide guidance and training to European finance teams on new and existing accounting policies, including developing a refreshed training calendar.
* Act as project manager and coordination point (alongside internal control, risk and local business finance teams) for the external audit process, implementing system‑based monitoring of regulatory reporting requirements across the division and streamlining local reporting and audit processes.
Key Competencies
* Extensive knowledge of IFRS; US GAAP desirable.
* Critical thinking skills with the ability to research and analyse information from multiple sources to determine the correct accounting treatment for complex transactions.
* Ability to simplify complex concepts into non‑technical questions to obtain complete information for accounting analysis.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present accounting information clearly and concisely and adapt language to the audience.
* Understanding of commercial rationale for transactions and applying a practical solutions‑based approach to complex accounting issues.
* Skill in developing and managing relationships with stakeholders at varying levels of seniority, focusing on meeting their needs.
* Independent, motivated, with strong project‑management and prioritisation skills; able to multi‑task within tight deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
* A solutions mindset and well‑versed in dealing with ambiguity; priorities change frequently with business needs.
Experience / Education
* Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with 10–12 years post‑qualification experience.
* Strong financial accounting background; detailed knowledge of IFRS required, US GAAP desirable.
* Experience accounting for large‑scale acquisition and divestment transactions.
* Experience engaging with and managing expectations of multiple stakeholders across territories and at varying levels of seniority.
* Experience constructively challenging and influencing finance professionals towards your perspectives.
* Experience writing technical accounting memos (for Group Accounting Advisory Team, internal or external audit) and adapting communication style to the audience.
