Overview
The Rainbow Centre at Newham University Hospital is looking to appoint a new play worker to join our dedicated and forward-thinking play team. You will be joining our experienced play specialist within the play team and another play worker.
The Rainbow Centre has a General Paediatric ward, a Day service and an Out-patients department at Newham University Hospital, based in busy and culturally diverse East London. Rainbow has a vibrant and colourful, welcoming atmosphere. There is also a dedicated Children’s Emergency Department in the hospital.
Responsibilities
* Provide age-appropriate play opportunities to children and families whilst they receive care.
* Identify the child’s emotional and developmental needs and support patients in activities of daily living.
* Help reduce anxiety surrounding hospital stays and create/maintain an age-appropriate environment throughout the ward.
* Plan and deliver distraction and support activities in collaboration with colleagues as part of patient care.
* Engage effectively with children, young people and their families; work with the multidisciplinary team to enhance the hospital experience.
* Work as part of a supportive team where play and recreation are valued as an integrated part of children’s and young people’s treatment.
Qualifications and experience
* Experience of working with children and young people.
* Ability to deal sensitively with families under stress.
* Ability to engage easily with children and young people and work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
* A positive, proactive, team-oriented approach to supporting children’s hospital experiences.
