There has never been a better time to join our organisation as we build towards a greener future, tackling climate change, minimising our environmental impact and reducing our carbon footprint!
We are excited to announce an opening within our service delivery team for a Project Manager. This role involves providing cost-effective maintenance solutions to Southern Water’s operational sites and supporting the delivery of our core projects. You will oversee the entire work lifecycle, from investigating cost-effective options that meet operational needs, defining and communicating scope to contractors, managing quality, cost, and timely delivery, to managing post-delivery closeout.
Key responsibilities include contract administration of multiple projects, managing costs and budgets, ensuring contract compliance, reporting, cost verification, and overseeing H&S performance of contractors.
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager for Service Delivery, you will be part of a team of six project managers managing operational capital projects valued at approximately £50M. Your role will be crucial in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and budget, while maintaining high standards of governance and financial control.
Your main duties will include:
1. Upholding the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental responsibility during project delivery.
2. Managing contractor activities, including H&S, scope, costs, through governance, audits, negotiations, and inspections.
3. Maintaining budget and cost information, including forecasting and variance analysis.
4. Finding innovative solutions to balance operational needs with cost restraints, avoiding unnecessary 'gold plating'.
5. Assessing payment applications against completed work and agreed costs.
6. Visiting sites for cost verification and stakeholder meetings.
7. Achieving targets, milestones, KPIs, and supporting Southern Water’s SIM targets.
8. Building effective relationships with site owners, contractors, team members, and stakeholders.
To succeed, you should have strong technical and operational experience in maintenance project delivery, with a good understanding of regulatory and legislative frameworks, and knowledge of contract and commercial conditions. Your ability to deliver cost-effective solutions that meet operational and customer needs, along with excellent networking, negotiating, and influencing skills, will be essential. This autonomous role requires a proactive approach to securing high service levels from contractors, ensuring compliance with service and H&S requirements.
Essential qualifications include project management experience within a utility environment, with sound knowledge of Water/Wastewater operations. Ideally, you will have completed project-related qualifications such as APM, Prince2, IOSH, NEBOSH, or be willing to complete them if successful.
