Job summary
The Equipment Library Assistant supports clinical areas by delivering, collecting, cleaning and checking medical devices to ensure they are safe and ready for use. The role includes assisting with basic preventative maintenance, first-line repairs and device tracking using systems such as e-Quip and RFID. It combines equipment logistics with developmental technical experience, requiring strong communication, organisation and adherence to safety and infection-control standards while supporting the work of Clinical Engineering and contributing to service improvement.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will support the Trust's clinical areas by delivering and collecting medical devices and ensuring they are cleaned, checked, and fit for use. In addition to equipment logistics, the postholder will assist Clinical Engineering staff in carrying out preventative maintenance on low-risk medical devices and undertake basic repairs and servicing under supervision. This developmental role is designed to provide training and practical experience in medical equipment maintenance and supports career progression into technical or clinical engineering roles. The postholder will work with digital asset management systems such as e-Quip and RFID and contribute to service quality by supporting audits, equipment performance monitoring, and improvement initiatives.
Due to the operational nature of the Clinical Engineering and Equipment Library services, postholders are required to work on-site on a full-time basis to ensure effective day-to-day service delivery and timely response to clinical needs. Working patterns will be agreed in accordance with the needs of the service and the organisational structure. Where applicable, staff may also be expected to participate in an on-call rota to support out-of-hours service continuity.
As the Equipment Library service operates on Saturdays, postholders will work on a rota basis covering 37.5 hours per week. This includes participation in a rotating schedule to provide Saturday cover as required by the service.
