Job overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a high standard of care to dialysis patients as well as ensuring an excellent learning environment for patient and staff. With the support of the Clinical Matron and Lead Clinicians, he/ she will need to participate in relevant projects and ensure strict compliance with specific infection and dialysis guidelines in order to develop the service. The post holder must have excellent interpersonal skills and have the capacity to work autonomously as a clinical expert. He/she will need substantial renal nursing experience, passes in renal degree modules or the ENB 136 certificate and have a keen interest in advance dialysis practice. He/she must also be self-motivated and have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Main duties of the job

To have continuous responsibility for the following aspects of care and management:

 Develop and update protocols and related practice in line with current evidence based practice
 Care delivered to patients and the setting and monitoring of standards of care
 Selection, deployment, training and development of staff and students.
 Assessment, development and implementation of specialised nursing packages of care.
 Compliance with all Clinical guidelines and hospital policies by all members of the staff.
 To create and support a learning environment and promote continuous professional development.
 To provides highly specialised nursing advice to ensure appropriate treatment and care is delivered to the
patient at all times.
 To refers and order specialised tests in line with agreed protocols and clinical governance guidelines
 To motivate and engage patients in shared or self-care.
 To provide holistic patient centred care to all dialysis patients.
 To Assess, plan and implement specialised packages of nursing of care to patients as the named nurse

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered General Nurse
2. ENB 136 or equivalent Renal Qualification
3. Mentorship course or equivalent

Desirable criteria

4. Understand PAS/IPM/Cerner

Experience

Essential criteria

5. Previous experience in Renal Nursing
6. Experience and knowledge of transplantation, peritoneal dialysis and nephrology
7. Independent practitioner in chronic haemodialysis, able to cannulate AVF/G access
8. Able to troubleshoot routine haemodialysis alarms

Desirable criteria

9. Experience of working in a nurse led facility

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

10. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
11. Shift management experience
12. Skill in staff management
13. Acute/critical care patient management skills
14. Ability to read and write English
15. Previous experience of taking in charge role on a clinical shift
