Job description
We are currently seeking an experienced mentor to support a Year 13 student who requires sensitive, adult‑to‑adult mentoring focused on post‑16 pathways, emotional wellbeing, and confidence building.
This young person is experiencing moderate depression, anxiety, autistic burnout, and emotional dysregulation, which has impacted his ability to attend school consistently and manage day‑to‑day functioning (including sleep, eating, self‑care, and emotional regulation). He is motivated to move forward and is particularly interested in further study via online routes, such as the Open University, but would benefit from guidance around different pathways and next steps.
Key Focus of the Role:
1. Mentoring and emotional support (not classroom teaching)
2. Exploring post‑16 options and future pathways
3. Building confidence, routine, and independence
4. Supporting regulation and wellbeing in a calm, respectful way
5. Working at his pace, with reduced hours initially
Important Considerations:
6. This young person is very sensitive to being treated like a child – he has no cognitive delays and must be treated as an equal and as a young adult
7. Information should be shared slowly and clearly, allowing time for processing
8. A calm, non‑pressured, relationship‑led approach is essential
Practical Details:
9. Hours: 1 hour per day
10. Days: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday
11. Timing: Afternoons
12. Setting: Initially home‑based, with potential to move into public/community settings ( café, gym, climbing wall) as confidence builds
We are looking for someone warm, emotionally attuned, and confident working with older young people who have complex mental health and neurodiversity needs, and who can offer steady, adult‑appropriate guidance during a key transition period.
If you are interested or would like to discuss the role further, please get in touch.
