Overview
Robert Half has been exclusively retained to appoint a highly skilled Financial Controller for a market-leading organisation within the specialist manufacturing and processing sector. Operating in a technically complex and tightly regulated environment, this business requires a commercially astute finance leader with deep experience in stock-intensive operations, cost control, and materials accounting-ideally with exposure to metals or high-value inventory.
This is a senior appointment reporting into the Finance Director and working closely with operations, production, and supply chain teams. It offers a hands-on leadership role with full responsibility for financial controls, reporting, and business performance support across a sophisticated and dynamic manufacturing footprint.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the monthly close process, including preparation of journals, FX revaluations, balance sheet integrity, and accurate group reporting
Manage stock and materials accounting across intake, valuation, settlement, and trading - particularly in relation to high-value or precious metals
Deliver detailed cost and margin analysis, partnering closely with production and operations teams to drive efficiency
Monitor and execute hedging activity to protect against commodity price risk
Oversee third-party trading activity and settlement of commodity-related contracts
Provide insightful monthly management reporting and ensure compliance with internal control frameworks
Support annual budgets, reforecasts, and long-term financial planning processes
Manage VAT submissions, oversee cash flow forecasting, and process payroll in conjunction with group finance
Act as the key contact for auditors and external advisors
Candidate Profile
Qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
Strong experience in Specialist Manufacturing environments is highly desirable
Deep technical understanding of stock and cost accounting, ideally with exposure to complex or regulated materials
Proficient with ERP systems - Microsoft Dynamics NAV experience preferred
Hands-on, proactive, and confident engaging with both senior stakeholders and operational teams
