We have an exciting role on offer within our Financial Planning & Support service as a Strategic Business Partnering Lead.
Middlesbrough Council is embarking on a period of financial improvement, transformation and modernisation. We are seeking an exceptional Strategic Business Partnering Lead to play a central role in straightening our financial insight, governance and strategic decision-making across the organisation.
This is a senior and influential role at the heart of the Council's approach to modern, proactive and collaborative business partnering. You will lead the development and implementation of improved business partnering practices that support directorates to manage budgets effectively, deliver value for money and make well-informed strategic choices. As a key member of the Financial Planning & Business Partnering Team, you will also deputise for the Head of Financial Planning & Business Partnering contributing to a culture of strong financial management, constructive challenge, transformation, and continuous improvement.
You will be leading the delivery of a modern, forward-looking finance business partnering model. Providing high-quality professional financial advice to senior officers, Executive Members and the Section 151 Officer. Overseeing monthly financial monitoring, forecasting and challenge across revenue, capital and balance sheet areas. Building strong relationships with service directors to influence strategic decisions and support financial sustainability. Ensuring the quality and accuracy of financial implications in decision reports. Contributing to corporate transformation, improvement plans and major programmes. Representing the Council in external financial networks and interpreting national developments.
You will be a qualified CCAB accountant with strong knowledge of local government financial frameworks, legislation, and accounting standards. You will bring extensive experience in modern financial business partnering, strategic financial advice, and leading high-performing teams in a complex organisation.
You will also demonstrate; Strong political awareness and confidence working with senior leaders. Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills. A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with strong analytical capability.
Experience of driving improved financial management and performance. The ability to deputise effectively and contribute to senior leadership. Most of all, you will share our values and our commitment to delivering the best possible outcomes for Middlesbrough.
