Overview of the role
We seek a software leader to join as a Software Engineering Delivery Manager. You will define, tailor, and enforce software development processes, manage resources, oversee product/project work packages and budgets, lead estimating activities, and contribute to continuous improvement within projects and the wider software team. Thales operates a hybrid working model, combining remote and on-site work.
Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with the Naval engineering and programme teams to develop realistic plans and schedules, prioritize software activities, and manage risks, assumptions, and dependencies.
2. Maintain and update software development plans aligned with evolving customer and business requirements, including safety and cybersecurity considerations.
3. Ensure adherence to the software development process, producing quality artefacts on time and within budget.
4. Lead the estimating process for the Naval portfolio and collaborate on building realistic bids.
5. Report monthly on software delivery performance.
6. Represent the company and software function in customer meetings and audits.
7. Support Agile Scrum teams, working with Product Owners and Scrum Masters, with potential to become a Product Owner.
8. Conduct performance discussions, wellbeing check-ins, and develop training and development plans for the team.
Requirements
We would love to hear from you if you have:
1. Experience leading successful software projects, especially in real-time and embedded systems, delivering on time and within budget.
2. Experience with Agile methodologies and continuous improvement.
3. Experience managing requirements throughout the software lifecycle, ensuring compliance and traceability.
4. Managed technology upgrades and integrations in complex systems.
5. Proficient in Jira for backlog management and metrics.
6. Desirable: experience with C++ and C development.
7. Desirable: experience developing safety-critical systems per standards like IEC 61508, DO-178C/278, or EUROCAE – ED109.
8. Experience addressing cybersecurity needs in software systems.
This role requires SC Clearance. Candidates should be willing to undergo and maintain SC Clearance. Residency in the UK for the last 5 years is generally required for full clearance, with some exceptions. Refer to UKSV for details.
