Head of Transport - Nelson, Lancashire - Competitive Annual Salary

About the role

We are looking for a Head of Transport to lead our national multi-site Transport function. This role will deliver business and customer requirements against strategic plans in a cost effective and efficient manner.

What you will do:

Management:

* Proactively manage the Company Operating Licence within the government guidelines and legislation.
* Effectively manage the team of Depot Managers, Planning Manager and subsidiary Compliance and Driver Training managers in line with business expectations.
* Strategically manage the transportation of goods in compliance with company’s policies and vision, optimising opportunities for efficiencies and cost-effectiveness.
* Manage the Transport budget and ensure that all transport costs are maintained through management of KPI’s.
* Play an active role in Wellocks’ Leadership Team to support cross function deliverables.

Process:

* Ensure all KPIs are delivered including OTIF, Hazard Reporting, Health and Safety and Labour budget.
* Oversee and implement optimal operational policies and procedures.
* Conduct timely research on Fleet profiles and the business carbon reduction objectives.
* Identify standards of best practice and ensure rollout and consistency in approach across all the depots.

Health and Safety / Food Safety

* Ensure that all Transport HSE and legislation requirements are understood and adhered to.
* Actively understand Health and Safety and Technical audit feedback and ensure corrective actions are resolved.
* Work with your team to develop a H&S, Food Safety and Quality culture in so much as safety and quality are never compromised as a minimum.

What you will need:

* Proven experience as a Transport Manager is a fast-paced environment
* CPC for Transport Managers (International Road Haulage) Level 3
* IOSH certification is desirable
* NEBOSH qualification is desirable
* Strong knowledge of Transport / Despatch KPIs
* Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
