We are seeking a dedicated Fish Health Manager to oversee the health, welfare, and biosecurity of fish populations across the Southern region. This is an exciting career opportunity for an individual with a background in fish health or performance!
The role
The Fish Health Manager is a crucial position that will take a proactive approach leading surveillance and investigative activities alongside the Fish Health Technicians. Responsibilities will include:
* Monitoring fish health and disease status through daily reviews of mortality trends, feed behaviour and gill check results.
* Investigating instances of elevated mortality, unusual fish behaviour, and classification errors, ensuring full investigations of Mortality Notifications and implementing management strategies.
* Developing and executing a weekly Gill Check Plan and participating in Bath Planning Meetings to minimise AGD impacts on fish welfare.
* Upholding Huon's Veterinary Health Plan by ensuring compliance, training, and reporting non-compliance issues
* Performing routine algae and jellyfish sampling, tracking environmental trends, and advising on jellyfish mitigation strategies
* Collaborating with Sustainability, IT, and Fish Performance teams to improve fish health monitoring and data reporting.
About you
With a strong background in fish health, performance, or related sciences, your expertise includes:
* Tertiary qualifications in science or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
* A strong understanding of fish biology, water chemistry, and production cycles.
* Proven ability to manage small teams and projects to achieve key outcomes.
* A positive work ethic, effective written and verbal communication, and the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders.
* Full proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
