Substance Misuse Non-Medical Prescriber

We have an exciting opportunity for a Non Medical Prescriber to join our Substance Misuse team at HMP Millsike, a category C Prison located in Full Sutton, East Yorkshire.

HMP Millsike is a newly built prison with an operational capacity of 1500 places. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a new healthcare team from the inception of a brand new prison site.

Hours

This is a part time role working 3 days per week, 7.5 hours per day. Ideally working Mon, Tue or Thu; however some flexibility can be provided.


Salary

You’ll receive an annual salary up to £47,466 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Non Medical Prescriber your responsibilities will vary. You will:

* Undertake Clinical Nursing Practice at an advanced level using expert knowledge and clinical skills to deliver care to patients
* Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence
* Provide treatment as required, including prescribing medication, within your sphere of competence
* Carry out comprehensive assessments of patients looked after
* Provide advice/support in relation to crisis situations, conditions, and treatment plans, based on medical and treatment history
* Carry out a clinical review with the patient and update care plans accordingly

Requirements

* Registered professional with current active registration (NMC, GPHC, HCPC)
* BSc or equivalent qualification
* Non-medical prescribing qualification
* Understanding and knowledge of policy developments related to the delivery of primary care services including Clinical Governance, Quality & Outcomes Framework
* Understanding of evidence based practice
* Evidence of Continuous Professional Development

Job description


Job responsibilities

As a Senior Nurse you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, prioritising patient care to develop individualised packages of care through comprehensive assessment and recovery planning. You will deliver a range of treatment options including clinical and psychosocial interventions in both a group and 1-1 setting with recovery at the centre of our healthcare wellbeing model.

You must be able to carry out comprehensive assessments, initiate and review individual recovery plans and confidently communicate the full range of treatment options available to service users. You will monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects and liaise with prescribers.

You will work with individuals, on a 1-1 basis, providing advice and information. You will support in group work delivery and liaise with prescribers and Recovery Practitioners on clinical interventions. You will occasionally be required to support dispensing. You must have an understanding and commitment to recovery and a person centred approach.

You will also encourage patient involvement in regime and therapeutic activities and create a physical and psychological environment conducive to high quality care. You will assess individuals health needs using an evidenced based framework and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness appropriate to the service users needs in accordance with evidence based practice, national and PPG protocols.

You will contribute to our nursing strategy and vision to;

* Provide outstanding evidence based care to our patients, seeking out, listening to and acting on their feedback, so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them.
* Deliver non-judgemental care, building therapeutic relationships and promoting professional boundaries. You will play an active part in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patients care following our policies and procedures and always considering safeguarding.
* Inspire excellence in your colleagues by pro-actively leading and motivating the team, recognising that our workforce is our most valuable asset. You will forge strong links with our partners and stakeholders, providing a service that people can trust, feels safe within, and feel proud of.
* Promote best practice, clinical supervision, evidence based care and continuous quality improvement, embedding a culture of shared learning.
* Share knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure safe care, building strong multi-disciplinary teams and supporting each other to do a great job.
