To provide an evening reception service to Bridges Clinic - Private Patients at Bedford Hospital South Wing.

Main duties of the job

1. Administration of the private patient registration / Payments

2. Communicating with patients

3. Ensuring all data is recorded and processed correctly on the relevant Trust IT systems

4. Communicating with relevant hospital departments

5. Liaising with the private medical insurers

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To ensure all data and documentation in relation to Private Patients is filed in accordance with Trust Policy.

To provide an efficient and effective clinical administration service to the department, consultants and designated medical staff. Be first point of contact for the patient, consultants and clinical teams.

To attend to patients, colleagues and referrers to the service, both in person and by email or on the telephone, promptly and courteously at all times and be a worthy front-line representative of the high quality service.

Be fully conversant with Insurance Companies regarding pre-authorisation of treatment, continuation of cover and price agreements and ensure that these are applied.

Person specification

Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria

1. Educated to A Level
2. English A Level
3. Maths GCSE Grade 5 or above
4. Experience of patient / customer facing reception role
5. Excellent interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills
6. High level of verbal and written skills

Desirable criteria

7. Experience of working in an acute NHS Trust
8. Previous Private Patient Administration experience
9. Experience of NHS Reception role within Outpatients Dept
10. CSW/Clinical Qualification

Personal Skills

Essential criteria

11. Demonstrable inter-personal and communications skills
12. Demonstrates a knowledge of confidentiality issues and able to work within requirements of Data Protection

Experience

Essential criteria

13. Knowledge of filing/record keeping
14. Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook / Excel / Word

Desirable criteria

15. Use of Hospital system IPM

Applicant requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
