Health Care Assistant Riverside Medical Practice
We are looking to recruit a Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly team.
Salary: Depending on experience
Benefits: 5 weeks annual leave pro rata, Membership of the NHS pension scheme
Hours: Part-time 20 hours per week, working Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 6.30pm
About us
Riverside Medical Practice is based at Pontllanfraith Health Centre. It is a busy single-site practice serving approximately 8,800 patients. Our clinical team includes 4 GPs, 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Health Care Assistant, 1 phlebotomist, along with a dedicated reception and administrative team. We also collaborate with NCN, HB Allied Health Professionals including a Physiotherapist, a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, and a Pharmacist. The District Nursing Team is based within the building, along with other Health Board Allied Health Professionals and an Independent Dispensing Pharmacy. We are proud to have been awarded 'Best GP Practice in South Wales 2024' and to have been runners-up in 2023.
Main duties of the job
Support the practice in delivering clinical and administrative services as part of our multidisciplinary team. Assist clinical staff in providing treatment, preventative care, health promotion, and patient education. Support the administrative team as needed.
Job responsibilities
* Prepare and maintain environments and equipment for patient care
* Assist in patient health assessments and surveillance
* Undertake new patient health checks
* Support health promotion programs
* Record baseline observations such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation
* Facilitate routine and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring
* Perform wound care, dressings, and suture removal
* Support chronic disease management, including diabetic reviews and foot checks
* Carry out BMI checks
* Act as a chaperone as required
* Undertake venipuncture, ear irrigation, and ECGs
* Ensure specimens are correctly recorded and transported
* Support minor procedures
* Maintain clinical room stock and cleanliness
* Monitor vaccine cold chain storage and record keeping
* Order stock and vaccines as needed
* Manage clinical waste and sharps disposal
* Deliver health promotion opportunistically
* Support patient recall and test result monitoring
* Assist with medical record coding and summarization
* Perform other clinical and administrative tasks within scope
Additional duties may include participating in audits, local initiatives, shared learning, and opening/closing procedures.
