As part of our growth strategy, The Aurora Group are really pleased to be opening a brand new SEND Secondary School in September 5 in Chaldon, Surreyfor young people aged - who require support with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing, typically associated with Autism. All our students have access to a broad and exciting curriculum, allied to the national curriculum, personalised to meet their needs, interests and passions. With a model of small classes, high levels of classroom support and a supernumerary multi-disciplinary intervention team we are able to give students “every opportunity to achieve”
We are looking to recruit a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team at Chaldon School. This is an exciting opportunity to join the school at the start of their journey. You will be based at Aurora Chaldon school with a requirement to work out of our satellite site Caterham when required.
The main purpose of the role:
The purpose of the Higher Level Teaching Assistant is to support the Class teacher with all elements of the day to day running of the class and to teach whole classes, groups and individual lessons in consultation with the Class Teacher on a regular basis across a range of classes.

Key duties:
Pupil Welfare and Safeguarding
1. Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
2. Provide meaningful feedback on pupil behaviour, relationships and attitudes.
3. Monitor pupils conduct and behaviour throughout the learning process and intervene to resolve highly complex, difficult or very challenging issues and to keep records of incidents, health, behaviour etc. as necessary
Supporting Teaching and Learning
4. To lead in the absence of any Class Teachers across the school.
5. Assist the Class Teacher with carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as outlined in the Professional Standards for Teachers.
6. Know and understand the Class Teacher’s curriculum planning and to plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision.
7. To provide high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
8. Develop and implement individual plans for pupils (such as the educational elements in an EHCP), including attendance at, and contribution to, reviews if requested.

Skills and Qualifications
Successful candidate qualities:
9. GCSE Maths and English qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.
10. The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification or demonstrate equivalent skill level.
11. Previous experience of working within a relevant SEND Provision.
12. Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
13. Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
14. Experience working within education is advantageous
15. Experience of working within a multi-cultural, inclusive setting
