A successful and well-established food manufacturer is seeking a Lead Maintenance Engineer / Team Leader to join their engineering team on a 4 on 4 off days & nights shift pattern. This role would suit an experienced Lead Engineer or Team Leader, but the business will also consider strong Maintenance Engineers who have not previously held a supervisory role but can demonstrate the potential and desire to step into a leadership position.
The Role
As Lead Maintenance Engineer, you will remain hands‑on while leading a team of two Engineers on shift, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and equipment reliability.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, guide and mentor engineers on shift
* Prioritise workload to support production and minimise downtime
* Ensure safe systems of work and compliance with site standards
* Deliver effective planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
* Respond to and resolve unplanned breakdowns efficiently
* Monitor equipment performance, reporting variances and taking corrective action
* Communicate technical issues to relevant departments
* Support and complete engineering projects, installations and equipment modifications
Experience & Skills Required
* Qualified Maintenance Engineer (C&G / NVQ Level 3 essential; ONC / HNC desirable)
* Multi-skilled with strong mechanical and electrical capability (electrically biased preferred)
* Ideally apprenticeship trained
* Proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong communication skills
* Food manufacturing experience highly advantageous
* Engineers without prior leadership titles will be considered if they demonstrate the aptitude and motivation to lead a team
Salary & Benefits
* Salary circa £51,000
* Up to 5% annual bonus
* 4 on 4 off 12‑hour days & nights shift pattern

Location
Ideally suited to engineers living in South Nottingham, North Leicestershire or the Melton Mowbray area.
