The role
Workday HCM Consultant
- Location: Hybrid (Office bases in Swindon, Stockton, or Newport—with flexibility depending on business needs)
- Security Clearance: SC Clearance required (or willingness/eligibility to undergo checks)
Are you an experienced Workday professional looking to step away from the relentless utilization targets of external consulting, without losing the complexity of large-scale enterprise systems?
We are looking for a Workday HCM Consultant to join a multi-disciplinary delivery team within a complex, large-scale public sector shared services environment. In this role, you will get the best of both worlds: hands-on involvement in high-impact optimization projects, paired with the stability, structure, and incredible benefits of a public sector career.
As a trusted advisor, you will play a key role in configuring, optimizing, and supporting a critical Workday ecosystem that impacts thousands of users nationwide.
About the role:
This is a dynamic, hybrid role split between continuous improvement projects and high-level operational support (L2/L3).
- Lead Configuration: Take ownership of hands-on functional configuration across Core HCM, Security Roles, Business Process Framework, and Job Architecture.
- Drive Process Improvement: Collaborate with HR, Payroll, and technical teams to run requirements-gathering workshops, translate business needs into robust functional designs, and support business process re-engineering.
- Problem Solve: Triage, investigate, and resolve complex Workday incidents (P1–P4), performing root cause analysis to stop recurring issues in their tracks.
- Support Testing: Play an active role in system, integration, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system upgrades and change requests.
- Document & Train: Maintain high-quality configuration workbooks, design decisions, and knowledge articles to build team capability.
What We Are Looking For:
To hit the ground running, you should bring a blend of technical Workday expertise and strong stakeholder management skills:
- Hands-on Workday Experience: Proven track record in a Workday HCM configuration, implementation, or support-focused role.
- Core Configuration Skills: Deep comfort navigating the Workday Business Process Framework, data structures, and security roles.
- Payroll/Integration Exposure: A solid understanding of end-to-end HR processes and how Workday HCM interfaces with internal or third-party payroll providers.
- Business Analysis Savvy: Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into clear functional specifications.
- Collaborative Mindset: Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap between technical teams and non-technical HR stakeholders.
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience working within a government, public sector, or shared services environment.
- Exposure to legacy ERP migrations (e.g., Oracle EBS or Fusion to Workday).
- Knowledge of Workday Advanced Reporting, Analytics, or EIBs.
Security & Eligibility
- Right to Work: Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK at the time of application.
- Security Clearance: Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of pre-employment checks, including Security Clearance (SC), or a willingness to obtain SC clearance.
