Job Summary
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is recruiting a Consultant Breast Surgeon to conduct breast surgical procedures and clinics at Queen Alexandra Hospital, with additional out‑patient clinics and theatre sessions once or twice a week at St. Mary’s Hospital, Isle of Wight. The appointment is a substantive, full‑time consultant post of 10 PA (8 DCC+2 SPA) starting in October 2026.
Responsibilities
* Deliver breast surgical procedures, outpatient clinics, MDT meetings and oncoplastic/reconstructive surgery at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
* Provide breast clinics and theatre sessions at St. Mary’s Hospital, Isle of Wight, once or twice per week.
* Participate fully in teaching, audit and research activities within the Breast & Surgical Oncology Department.
* Contribute to the national and regional research programmes and innovation projects focused on device technology and digital health.
* Support the department’s MDT and management of skin cancer and sarcoma services.
* Share in the on‑call rota for breast surgery; general surgery on‑call is not required.
Qualifications (Essential)
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
* Higher professional training in General Surgery / Breast Surgery.
* FRCS or equivalent qualification.
Qualifications (Desirable)
* BSc, MSc, MD or PhD.
* Fellowship in Breast Surgery.
Experience (Essential)
* Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed date within 6 months), CESR or European Community Rights.
* Evidence of a clinical or research fellowship.
Experience (Desirable)
* Research experience and willingness to participate as a consultant.
* Experience recruiting to clinical trials.

* Understanding of NHS Clinical Governance and resource constraints.

* Formal management training/qualification or enthusiasm for leading service improvement (desirable).
Location & Working Pattern
Queen Alexandra Hospital, Southwick Hill Road, Cosham, Portsmouth, PO6 3LY. Full‑time permanent contract. Hours: 10 PA (8 DCC + 2 SPA). Part‑time arrangements possible.
