To support the Registered Manager in the day‑to‑day running of the children’s residential home, ensuring high‑quality care for young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). The Deputy Manager will help lead, supervise, and develop staff while promoting a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment that meets regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
* Assist the Registered Manager in the overall management of the home.
* Lead shifts and act as Manager in the absence of the Registered Manager.
* Supervise, mentor, and support residential care staff.
* Contribute to staff appraisals, training, and development plans.
* Promote a positive, child‑centred culture within the home.
Care & Support of Young People
* Ensure young people receive high‑quality, individualised care in line with care plans.
* Build positive relationships with children and support their emotional and behavioural needs.
* Promote safeguarding, welfare, and well‑being at all times.
* Support young people in developing life skills, independence, and resilience.
* Manage challenging behaviours using de‑escalation and therapeutic approaches.
Safeguarding & Compliance
* Ensure compliance with Ofsted regulations, Children’s Homes Regulations (2015), and Quality Standards.
* Safeguard and protect children from harm, reporting concerns appropriately.
* Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records, reports, and documentation.
* Support inspections and implement action plans following audits.
Operational Duties
* Assist with rota planning and staffing levels.
* Participate in the on‑call rota as required.
* Manage incidents, complaints, and safeguarding concerns effectively.
* Ensure the home environment is safe, clean, and well‑maintained.
Partnership Working
* Work collaboratively with social workers, families, schools, and other professionals.
* Attend and contribute to meetings such as reviews, planning meetings, and case conferences.
* Advocate for the needs and rights of young people.
Person Specification
* Essential
o Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
o Working towards or willingness to complete Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management.
o Experience working with children/young people with EBD in a residential setting.
o Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and Ofsted regulations.
o Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
o Ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively.
o Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and sleep‑ins.
* Desirable
o Previous supervisory or senior role experience.
o Understanding of trauma‑informed care and therapeutic approaches.
o Full UK driving licence.
