Overview
We have a vacancy for a Consultant post in Cellular Pathology based at Royal Preston Hospital. This is a full‑time, permanent position.
The working week is Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm with no expectation of on‑call duties.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide a comprehensive histopathology service; non‑reporting of neuropathology cases.
* Develop specialist interests to complement existing cancer services.
* Co‑operate with other members of the Pathology Directorate to ensure effective laboratory administrative arrangements, including recruitment and appointment of junior medical staff, BMSs and secretarial staff.
* Arrange staff rosters, allocate duties, and instruct staff in organisational matters.
* Coordinate with staff in other professional disciplines and health‑care workers outside the hospital.
* Attend Board meetings and other committees discussing pathology issues and participate in resource management.
* Take continuing management responsibility by agreement with other consultants, specifically for the service in charge and for associated administrative duties, delegating where appropriate.
Collaborations
In discussion with other trusts in Lancashire and Cumbria, a central laboratory hub has been proposed.
Environment & Support
Modern Education Centres at Royal Preston, Chorley and South Ribble offer library, study facilities, PC/Internet support and simulation facilities. All consultants are encouraged to be research active and are supported to carry out research. New substantive consultants are enrolled in the Consultant Leadership Programme with mentorship. Annual appraisals with trained appraisers and revalidation support are provided.
