An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic and forward thinking individual to join our Biomedical Scientist team to help take forward and develop the Biochemistry Department at Wexham Park Hospital.
The laboratory is fully accredited with UKAS and holds IBMS training status for Registration and Specialist Portfolio.
Within the Laboratory we currently use Winpath Enterprise, Abbott's Alinity ci in routine biochemistry laboratory. TOSOH G11, Kryptor compact Plus and Osmo Pro multi-sample micro -osmometer analysers in special chemistry laboratory and Northstar- Bio-Uv spectrophotometer for xanthochromia,
We are fully automated laboratory with GLP track system.
Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS), one of the first NHS pathology networks to be established in 1998, is now one of the largest in the country. We are driven to provide a patient centred service which provides safe, high quality, clinically led diagnostics.
BSPS is a contractual joint venture between Ashford & St. Peter’s Hospitals, Frimley Health (Wexham Park & Frimley Park Hospitals), Royal Berkshire Hospital, Royal Surrey County Hospital and Surrey and Sussex Hospital.
Main duties of the job
* Liaise closely with the line manager in providing a high quality technical service that builds on the standards defined by the UKAS and ISO 15189:2022.
* Develop and maintain close working relationships with all grades of staff both technical and medical to ensure the effective delivery of the technical service.
* Be expected to take part in 24/7 shift pattern.
* Be based at Wexham Park Hospital and may be required at times to travel to the other sites in the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Network.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* The post-holder will practise as an HCPC Registered BMS in Biochemistry, participating fully in the practical work of the department.
* They will be responsible for the operation and provision of a high quality technical service.
Person specification
Essential
* HCPC registered
* BSc in Biomedical Sciences
* IBMS Certificate of Competence (Registration Portfolio)
Desirable criteria
* IBMS Specialist Diploma or IBMS Diploma in Biomedical Science.
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience of working in a relevant medical laboratory.
* Evidence of maintenance of practical skills.
* Awareness of Pathology H&S procedures.
* Ability to organise own work to fit with departmental or section rotas.
* Understanding of robust quality management system, internal & external.
Desirable criteria
* Understanding of audit processes
* Understanding of relevant accreditation or regulatory standards
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Competent in IT systems such as Microsoft software applications
* Team working
* Evidence of proven commitment to continued personal and professional development.
* Communication skills in all media including e-mail, phone.
