Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced senior clinician to join the Stroke team as a Specialist Grade Doctor, working autonomously as part of the Consultant workforce.
Main Responsibilities
* Hyperacute stroke management including thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy.
* HASU and ASU ward management.
* Transitional ischaemic attack (TIA) clinic support (Mon‑Fri).
* Same‑day emergency care.
* Support bi‑weekly ward consultant rounds at Stroke Sub‑Acute Rehabilitation Units (SSARU) located at South Bristol Community Hospital and Weston General Hospital.
* Participate in on‑call rota providing thrombolysis and regional thrombectomy service.
* Outreach support to TIA clinics and ward referrals at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
Qualifications and Registration
Essential criteria
* MRCP or equivalent.
* Full registration with the GMC.
* Minimum of 12 years of medical work (continuous or aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification, with at least six years in stroke.
Desirable criteria
* Higher academic qualification (MD or MSc).
* Pursuing CESR application.
Training and Experience
Essential criteria
* Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices.
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCT in General and Geriatric Medicine, Neurology or Acute Medicine.
* Training in diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular conditions.
* Experience with hyper‑acute stroke treatments including thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy.
Desirable criteria
* Experience in thrombectomy referral management.
Further Training, Management, Audit
Essential criteria
* Evidence of recent CME or reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
* Experience in audit and quality improvement.
* Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues.
Research, Teaching, Publications
Essential criteria
* Proven teaching ability.
* Willingness to undertake teaching of medical undergraduates and postgraduates.
Desirable criteria
* Proven track record in research.
* Willingness to undertake further research.
* Evidence of relevant publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
Leadership and Teamwork
Essential criteria
* Proven ability to build and maintain effective teams.
* Positive attitude towards members of the wider healthcare team.
* Good organisational skills and involvement in clinical directorate management.
* Evidence of positive development and change management.
* Understanding of positive leadership in the context of healthcare.
Communication Skills
Essential criteria
* Empathetic and sensitive to the needs of patients and colleagues.
* Ability to explain complex and sensitive information, sometimes under stressful circumstances.
* Ability to influence and persuade effectively.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable criteria
* Reside within 30 minutes or ten miles from the principal place of work for on‑call commitments.
