Workshop Manager opportunity
My client, a well-established family-run business, is actively seeking to employ an experienced and qualified Workshop Manager for their Manchester depot. You will manage a team of 6-8 HGV Technicians working on an internal fleet of commercial vehicles including RCVs, Skip Loaders, and Hook Loaders. The majority of your time (90%) will be spent managing at the depot, with the remaining (10%) assisting on the tools to cover holiday/sickness.
Excellent package depending on experience and qualifications, with a salary range of £60,000 - £70,000.
Company van and fuel included, along with sick pay.
Workshop Manager duties include:
* Managing 6-8 HGV Technicians, primarily overseeing operations but also assisting on the tools during holiday or sickness cover.
* Ensuring technicians and garage staff understand their tasks and responsibilities.
* Leading and supervising the team, allocating tasks, monitoring performance, and conducting training and reviews.
* Overseeing daily operations, scheduling vehicle servicing and repairs, and optimizing workshop resources.
* Managing preventative maintenance, MOT preparations, and minimizing vehicle downtime.
* Ensuring compliance with DVSA, LOLER, PUWER, COSHH, and health & safety regulations, maintaining accurate service records.
* Communicating effectively with clients and internal teams, managing parts inventory, supplier relationships, budgets, and documentation via workshop management systems.
Qualifications / experience required:
* Fully qualified HGV Technician with previous workshop management experience in the HGV sector.
* Extensive experience as an HGV Technician/Mechanic/Fitter, familiar with modern commercial vehicles.
* IRTEC qualification is beneficial but not essential.
* Full UK driving license.
