A major UK manufacturer is seeking an experienced Purchasing & Stores Manager for its state‑of‑the‑art Barnsley fabrication and production facility. This pivotal role supports global supply chain operations, driving excellence across purchasing, materials flow and internal logistics.
This leadership position offers the opportunity to shape a global supply base, influence strategic purchasing, and deliver continuous improvement across procurement, stores and stock control.
About the Role
Responsible for Purchasing Management and Stores & Internal Logistics, you'll ensure seamless material flow, supplier performance and stock optimisation.
Purchasing Leadership
Lead, develop and coach the purchasing team
Strengthen supplier performance and logistics
Implement secure, efficient purchasing strategies
Oversee cost control, contract negotiations and sourcingStores & Internal Logistics
Manage internal materials movement and stock control
Align stocking policies with planning and scheduling
Drive continuous improvement through systems and data
Maintain inventory accuracy and stock‑take performanceKey Responsibilities
Manage a supplier portfolio exceeding £10M
Negotiate commercially robust supply contracts
Develop global, dual‑source supply bases
Implement KPIs, scorecards and supplier monitoring
Lead audits, tenders and strategic supplier development
Support NPI and production launches
Manage purchasing planning, MRP parameters and cost‑reduction initiatives
Oversee logistics strategy, stock accuracy and obsolete inventory control
Ensure ISO 9001/14001/18001 compliance and maintain documentationExperience & Qualifications
Essential
5+ years in senior purchasing or supply chain
Experience with steel, fabrications and machined components
Knowledge of single‑piece‑flow environments
Strong MRP and Microsoft Office skills
Proven internal logistics and inventory management expertise
Strong negotiation and contract management
Global travel capability
Experience with lean, supplier auditing and PPAP/QPAPDesirable
CIPS qualification
Open‑book costing and PPV experience
