Reporting to Head of Marketing & NPD
Cafea UK are looking for a proactive and experienced Purchasing Manager for our Dunstable site working in an environment where people feel valued, inspired and supported.
Experience working in mid-sized organizations, and in a food manufacturing environment, would be a definite advantage. You'll be at the heart of the Cafea business closely supporting the leadership team with responsibility for buying over £50 million of coffee and commodities. This position requires in depth purchasing knowledge, excellent relationship building, analytical skills and commercial acumen.
Key responsibilities:
* Develop and implement sourcing strategies aligned with company objectives by forecasting, negotiating and purchasing enough raw materials to ensure our customer service levels are at least 98.5% whilst minimizing the value of inventory held.
* Management procurement contracts, logistics coordination and timely delivery of coffee and commodities.
* Work closely with the finance team to ensure foreign currency cover for commodity purchases. Monitor currency markets and give advice on optimum time to purchase currency that minimises FX risk.
* Monitor raw material stocks, stock rotation and flow of materials through supply chain.
* Monitor global coffee and cocoa markets; pricing, supply and demand to inform purchasing decisions.
* Identify, evaluate and negotiate with suppliers to secure the best quality, price and terms.
* Work with technical and sustainability teams to ensure purchases meet our specifications, quality, price, consistency and traceability requirements.
* Work with NPD team on cupping and blend generation.
* Support the leadership team and sales team with product knowledge, market insights.
* Work closely with the Cafea Group global purchasing team based in Hamburg, Germany.
* Assist in reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, protecting the forests, defending the human rights of everyone in our supply chain and adhering to the highest ethical trading standards.
Right Candidate
· Over 5 years experience of commodity sourcing within UK food manufacturing
· Highly desirable is a knowledge and experience of the global coffee industry and fx market
· Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills
· Ability to build and develop effective working relationships with Suppliers, Internal Sales, Marketing, Technical and Supply Chain Departments within Cafea UK and wider Cafea Group. A strong team player.
· Effective Time-Management with ability to prioritise.

* Planning, analysis and strategic thinker
* Organized, analytical and detail orientated. Able to manage contracts, logistics and budgets without losing sight of the bigger picture.
* German speaker is not essential but would be an advantage.
