We are looking for Legal Officers to join nplaw, to provide legal support to our Lawyers and Senior Legal Officers, in the Planning Team.
nplaw is a public sector shared legal service with a wealth of experience gained through many years of advising our clients in local government, the public sector, charities and schools. We provide a wide range of legal services, delivered by specialist lawyers who understand the local government context. As a Legal Officer at nplaw, you’ll be responsible for assisting with the provision of legal services to clients. This will mean drafting and administering Traffic Regulation Orders, undertaking straightforward transactions and casework (which may include Tree Preservation Orders, s278 and s106 agreements), attending meetings, and drafting documentation. You’ll work closely with Lawyers and Senior Legal Officers on cases, and will also deal directly with clients, ensuring a high degree of customer service at all times. To be considered for the Legal Officer role you will have demonstrable experience working in a legal environment, or have a legal qualification such as a law degree or be CILEx level 3 qualified (or working towards CILEx level 3) or a have a similar qualification You will need a good knowledge of the law or a willingness to learn new subjects, first class communication and organisational skills, and a desire to learn. We will offer you training and support in all these areas.
Ideally the post requires an immediate start (or immediately following a reasonable notice period) so is not suitable for candidates currently in education. In this role you will be part of a large team providing legal advice and support on a range of planning matters with a specific focus on the administration of traffic regulation orders, planning related work matters (which may include Tree Preservation Orders, s278 and s106 agreements) and general team admin, ensuring that the expectations of stakeholders and clients are met. You will understand or develop an understanding of, the legal procedures, resources and systems to undertake straightforward legal transactions and casework, with support from Solicitors and Senior Legal Officers as required, including:
1. attending meetings when requested to do so to take notes;
2. ensuring that deadlines and order time limits are complied with by chasing and reminding clients and third-parties;
3. drafting traffic regulation orders under supervision or other documentation as required which may include tree preservation orders, s278 and s106 agreements; and
4. generally supporting team members
