The Opportunity We are looking for a pragmatic and detail-oriented Management Accountant to join our finance team on a fixed term basis, supporting our External Contracting division. This is a highly visible and commercially important role, responsible for producing accurate and insightful management accounts for a project-driven area of the business. The role requires someone comfortable working with complex, assumption-led financial data and able to translate this into meaningful insight. You will act as a key business partner to operational stakeholders, ensuring financial discipline is maintained while supporting decision-making to help the division deliver against its plan. What You’ll Be Responsible For Management Reporting & Analysis Ownership of the monthly management accounts for the External Contracting division Producing accurate, timely and insightful financial reporting with clear commentary Managing the detailed allocation of revenue and costs across multiple projects Applying judgement to assumption-driven accounting to ensure accurate and consistent outcomes Supporting budgeting and forecasting processes for the division Business Partnering Acting as a trusted finance partner to divisional leadership and operational teams Providing financial insight to support commercial decision-making Challenging assumptions and ensuring financial discipline across projects Acting as the “eyes and ears” of finance within the division Balance Sheet & Control Ownership of all balance sheet accounts relating to the division Preparing and reviewing detailed monthly reconciliations Ensuring integrity, accuracy and completeness of financial records Supporting robust financial controls and governance Systems & Process Improvement Driving improvements to existing processes, with a focus on simplification and efficiency Supporting the integration between operational systems and finance systems I nfluencing reduced reliance on Excel-based processes through better system utilisation Improving the speed and accuracy of reporting outputs Audit & Wider Finance Support Supporting year-end processes and external audit requirements Assisting across the finance team during periods of absence or peak workload Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the wider finance function What We’re Looking For Experience & Qualifications Qualified accountant (ACCA / CIMA or equivalent) or qualified by experience Strong management accounting experience, ideally within a project-based or contracting environment Experience working with complex cost and revenue allocations Proven track record of improving processes and simplifying ways of working Experience with finance systems (Microsoft Dynamics NAV desirable) Exposure to project-based systems (e.g. Big Change or similar) advantageous Skills & Capabilities Strong analytical skills with attention to detail Comfortable working with ambiguity and assumption-driven data Ability to balance accuracy with pragmatism to meet deadlines Strong Excel skills, alongside a desire to reduce reliance on manual processes Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence non-finance stakeholders Personal Attributes Commercially aware with a proactive mindset Organised and resilient, able to manage competing priorities Curious and improvement-focused Confident in challenging and supporting stakeholders constructively What Success Looks Like In this role, you will: Deliver accurate and timely management accounts for the division Provide clear insight into project performance and profitability Improve efficiency and reduce manual processes through better systems usage Strengthen financial control and balance sheet integrity Build strong relationships with operational teams and influence decision-making Core Behaviours Lead with Integrity You demonstrate accuracy, accountability and sound judgement in all financial matters.
