We have an exciting opportunity to join the Infection Prevention and Control Team as a Band 6 Deputy Clinical Specialist. The post holder will also have the opportunity to work closely with the wider Infection Prevention Control (IPC) multi-disciplinary team as part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic individual with great communication skills who has an aspiration to develop their knowledge and career in IPC. This opportunity is open to applicants who have at least four years clinical experience (nursing or allied health professions), but more importantly, who are able to demonstrate the ability to learn and have the ambition to participate in the delivery of the IPC service within both acute and community adult settings of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and on occasion the Evelyn London children’s Hospital.

Main duties of the job
The post is dedicated to promoting safe care and a safe environment for all patients/ their families, staff and visitors. The post will provide support, education and advice to all staff both clinical and non clinical on the investigation, treatment, prevention and control of infections.
Post holder will be based at St Thomas’ Hospital in the Infection Prevention and Control department and work fulltime hours predominantly Monday to Friday to meet the needs of the IPC service. With training and support the post will include accommodating the provision of a seven day service for the trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To work within the IPC team providing specialist input in the identification, prevention, monitoring and control of infection within the Trust
2. Work with multi-disciplinary teams both hospital and the community based, in provision of optimal care, to improve quality of life.
3. The post-holder is responsible for supporting the continuous improvement of quality of services and safe guarding high standards of care by sustaining an environment in which excellence in clinical care can flourish.
4. Undertake surveys, audit and research and development, clinical audit and service evaluation and through evidence-based practice, demonstrate clinical excellence with measurable standards and outcomes aiming to improve care and quality of life
5. Act as an advisor who selects and initiates appropriate actions to enable all grades and disciplines of staff to prevent and control infection.
6. To provide effective communication with patients, their relatives and relevant others to impart information and support, which may be of a sensitive and emotive nature.
7. To assist in the review critical incidents and assist and support the IPC service in producing written reports with recommendations where necessary.

8. Proven clinical and skills in infection prevention and control
9. Knowledge of evidence based practice
10. Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
11. An understanding of audit and research based clinical practice
12. Demonstrate an awareness of clinical governance and risk management and how this effects their role and the department
13. Information Technology skills with experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and other healthcare applications.
14. Self motivated and able to work under own initiative
