Are you an experienced customs professional looking to take ownership of a department? Perhaps you're currently operating as a senior customs clerk and ready to step into a management role with real operational impact?
A well-established and highly active transport & logistics business is seeking a Customs Manager to lead its in-house customs function. This is a key operational role, overseeing a small team while ensuring the smooth, compliant and cost-effective movement of freight across UK & Ireland trade routes.
Operating in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment, the successful candidate will play a critical role in preventing delays, reducing avoidable costs and maintaining high service levels for customers.
This opportunity is ideally suited to a commercially aware customs professional who understands the pressures of transport operations and thrives in a fluctuating, high-volume environment.
The Role
* Leading and managing a team of customs personnel responsible for declarations and documentation
* Overseeing all customs processes across UK & Ireland movements (Brexit experience essential)
* Ensuring accurate and timely submission of import/export declarations
* Managing the flow of information between customers, customs, planners and port operations
* Acting as the key point of contact for customs-related queries, escalations and compliance matters
* Driving continuous improvement within customs processes and team performance
The Person
* Proven experience within customs (freight forwarding or transport background preferred)
* Strong understanding of post-Brexit UK/EU trade requirements
* Experience managing or mentoring staff within a customs function
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail
* Confident communicator, able to liaise with customers and internal teams effectively
