Central Recruitment is currently recruiting for an Assistant Support Worker, to work in the Haringey area. The service supports people with profound and multiple learning disabilities to achieve the outcomes they want.
The successful candidate will be required to work 36 hours per week, working across Monday - Friday. Temporary cover is required for 3 months. The pay rate is £14.40 per hour, with £1.74 holiday pay, totalling £16.14 per hour.
In this position, you will be required to:
* Ensure high levels of dignity are maintained whilst supporting people to eat, drink, have personal care and any other support needs met in line with the guidelines provided
* Follow the eating and drinking guidelines for each individual carefully and report any concerns immediately to the Speech and Language Therapist Coordinator
* Support and maintain people's physical wellbeing through good manual handling practices
* Maintain people's physical welfare by following all OT and Physiotherapy guidelines and supporting the OT and Physio Coordinators to deliver therapeutic movement sessions.
* Work alongside the Speech and Language Therapist Coordinator to continue to develop your own creative communication skills with people who have profound and multiple learning disabilities
* Be able to adapt your communication style and approach with each adult depending on their personalised communication guidelines.
* Contribute towards the personalised support plan by advocating on someone's behalf and utilising creative communication where appropriate.
* Provide written updates such as; updating families and carers on daily activities and events, daily plans and risk assessments.
* Understand and implement the Councils Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults policy.
* Support people to access the service safely via any means of Transport identified in the person's support plan; escorting, support on and off the vehicles, ensuring wheelchairs and mobility aids are secure, door to door service with handover to an appropriate care, utilising local transport, walking with wheelchairs to and from activities and home
* Maintain general indoor housekeeping of the Community Hub
* Understanding, knowledge and ability to follow guidelines that ensures compliance with Health and Safety at Work, Data Protection and other statutory requirements
Please note; this role involves some lone working

* Be able to communicate with service users in a way which is empathetic, engaging and clear
* Ability to maintain focus when working with individuals we support.
* A consistent approach in line with each individuals support plan
* Ability to motivate the person you are working with by recognising and celebrating all their individual achievements.
* Ability to engage with the people you are supporting by using a range of verbal and non-verbal communication styles.
* Experience writing short updates as necessary both handwritten and via email.
* Ability to Pass the Care Certificate training and to complete all work in 12 weeks
* Ability to work in a safe manner and to be aware of the safety of people
* Ability to work constructively as part of a team

In order to register with Central Recruitment Services for temporary agency work, candidates must meet the following criteria:
* Current valid right to work in the UK
* Minimum 12 months’ of paid experience in a front line social care role within the last 3 years* (unless recruitment criteria states otherwise)
* A fully enhanced DBS either registered on the DBS update service or issued within the last 12 months, or willingness to apply for one through Central (at a cost of £60)
* Employment or education history to cover the last 5 years which can be verified through the referencing process
