PURPOSE OF THE ROLE Join the BBC’s TV & Devices team and help shape how audiences watch, stream and interact with BBC programmes on their TVs. As a Senior Tester, you’ll lead testing across our broadcast and IP TV applications, making sure new features land safely on millions of living-room devices and that our experiences are reliable, accessible and high quality. Your Key Responsibilities And Impact Lead the planning, design and execution of test strategies for BBC TV applications across a range of platforms (e.g. connected TVs, set-top boxes, games consoles and streaming devices). Design and maintain effective regression and automation suites across UI, API and integration layers, using modern tools and frameworks. Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, peers and external partners to clarify requirements, explore risks and agree test approaches as required. Use a mix of exploratory testing, analytics, logs and monitoring to validate real-world behaviour and support incident investigation. Champion good testing practices across the team, mentoring others, contributing to our test community and driving continuous improvement. Champion good testing practices across the team, mentoring others, contributing to our test community and driving continuous improvement Essential Criteria YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Strong experience in software testing for complex, user-facing products, including planning and executing functional, regression and exploratory testing. Hands-on experience testing applications on devices such as TVs, set-top boxes or other embedded/consumer devices. Experience with test automation frameworks or tools (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar) and source control (e.g. Git). Proven ability to work in agile, cross-functional teams, communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues and external partners. A curious, collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving skills and a focus on audience impact, accessibility and quality. Desired But Not Required Experience of broadcast and connected TV ecosystems (e.g. DTT, DSat, DCab, HbbTV, Freeview Play, Freesat, Sky, Virgin Media, YouView, Freely). Experience setting up or extending automation frameworks for JavaScript/React/TypeScript applications and APIs (e.g. Postman or similar tools). Understanding of TV metadata and editorial controls such as content prominence, attribution, discoverability and recommendations. Experience contributing to live incident handling, root cause analysis and post-incident reviews. Testing-related qualification (e.g. ISTQB/ISEB/Certified Agile Tester) or equivalent industry experience.
