Job overview

An exciting opportunity has come up to join the haematology team at Bedford Hospital as a Lymphoma Clinical nurse specialist.

The role is to provide a holistic, patient-focused service delivering evidence based information and advice to patients with lymphoma, supporting them and their families throughout diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care. By providing specialist, expert clinical knowledge to clinical colleagues, patients, carers and relatives. As an expert practitioner, liaise, guide and advise the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies in the provision of optimum patient care and lead the development of clinical services within the specialist field.

Main duties of the job

1. To perform an effective key role within the MDT to deliver cancer waiting times targets and pathways communication.
2. To attend and co-ordinate MDT meetings if appropriate to the role ensuring all patients are represented
3. To deliver a seamless service through the development of enhanced Multidisciplinary team (MDT) processes and communication
4. To act as a specialist resource for patients and the clinical team by providing comprehensive advice, information, teaching and training both within the Trust and externally.
5. Update own clinical and specialist knowledge. Contribute in audit processes. Undertake, where appropriate, nursing research with published outcomes.
6. Promote excellence in clinical practice, and the setting of quality standards within specialty.
7. Active involvement in the development of the service locally and nationally.

8. To support the in-patients who are suspected Lymphoma and to navigate their investigation pathway.
9. To support the lymphadenopathy service
10. To be present at new diagnosis of Lymphoma.
11. To follow-up patients as appropriate and ensure all relevant information is available to enable patients to make an informed choice about their treatment
12. Deliver evidence based individualised patient care according to patients changing health care needs, through holistic needs assessment (HNA).

Qualifications

Essential criteria

13. 1st level Registered nurse
14. Educated to degree level. (BSc Hons Nurse Practitioner) or working towards this level.
15. Post-registration qualification in specialist area
16. Independent prescribing qualification or willing to undertake
17. Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable criteria

18. Teaching qualification
19. Recognised counselling qualification
20. IRMER Training
21. Advanced communication skills

Experience

Essential criteria

22. Relevant post registration experience in the speciality of oncology/ haematology
23. Experience of successful multi-agency working
24. Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area
25. Experience of developing and undertaking clinical audit.
26. Participation in service development and implementation of change

Desirable criteria

27. Experience of clinical leadership
28. Experience of requesting imaging as a NMQR

Knowledge

Essential criteria

29. Knowledge of professional issues and policy relating to specialist area.
30. Demonstrate knowledge and application of Clinical Governance
31. Demonstrates knowledge of Clinical audit and research
32. Demonstrates knowledge of Risk Management
33. Clinical Issues – assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care

40. Ability to support and care for patients who have received a life threatening diagnosis.
41. Intermediate IT skills eg Microsoft office

42. Able to perform advanced clinical skills
43. Able to analyse data and provide written reports.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
