Optilase is seeking Locum Optometrists to support our refractive surgery clinics. The successful candidate must be flexible and open to travelling between our clinics in Belfast, Newry and Derry, with availability to work evenings and weekends.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in a specialist refractive environment, carrying out advanced eye assessments using state‑of‑the‑art diagnostic technology while collaborating closely with Consultant Ophthalmologists and experienced clinical teams.

Key Responsibilities
* Identify patients’ refractive error and recognise any early signs of ocular disease or other general health conditions.
* Analyse various aspects of patients’ corneal eye health, lifestyle requirements, prescription, intraocular pressure, binocular vision and anterior and retinal eye health.
* Capture and interpret anterior eye diagnostic imaging using equipment such as OCT, Oculus Pentacam, slit lamp biomicroscope, Schwind, and IOLMaster.
* Instil any necessary ophthalmic drops, including dilation drops, in accordance with clinical protocols.
* Insert and remove contact lenses for clinical trials where required.
* Identify suitable candidates for refractive surgery, ensuring procedures, expected outcomes and potential risks are clearly explained to the patient.
* Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in line with company guidelines and professional standards.
* Complete all surgical paperwork and clinical documentation required to support the patient pathway.
* Update internal tracking systems and spreadsheets with individual patient information and clinical outcomes.
* Communicate with patients via phone and email where required to support continuity of care, including responding to queries and assisting with pre‑ and post‑consultation follow‑ups.
* Liaise with Consultant Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and the wider surgical and administrative teams to ensure the highest standard of patient care.
* Actively participate in quality improvement, risk mitigation and patient safety initiatives, complying with all policies, procedures and quality standards.
* Follow the safety measures outlined in the Health & Safety Statement to protect the health, safety and welfare of patients, colleagues and visitors.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support the needs of the business.
Full refractive training will be provided.
Successful candidates will attend paid training days at our Dublin clinic, where they will receive hands‑on experience with our refractive diagnostic technology and clinical pathways.
Requirements
* Degree in Optometry
* Experience working in a busy clinical practice
* Registered with the GOC
* Willingness to travel between Belfast, Newry and Derry (and Dublin for training purposes only)
* Availability to work evenings and weekends
