Responsibilities:
This role offers a unique opportunity to partner closely with the European Gas & Power teams to design, develop and maintain quantitative tools that forecast hydrological variables and translate them into power generation forecasts (MW/MWh). The successful candidate will join a top-tier power and natural gas analysis team and play a central role in building out our hydrological forecasting capability, from model design and calibration through to production-grade deployment and ongoing maintenance.
This position is well suited to someone who thrives in an innovative, entrepreneurial commercial environment, is motivated to take ownership of new analytics end-to-end, and enjoys translating scientific modelling into tools that directly support trading and investment decisions.
Qualifications:
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
* Understanding of the weather-to-power value chain and how hydrological conditions impact electricity markets.
* Familiarity with ensemble weather forecasting products (e.g., ECMWF, GFS) and their application to hydro modelling.
* Experience with geospatial data, remote sensing (e.g., satellite snow cover), and large-scale hydrological datasets.
* Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R, or equivalent)
With Professional Experience
* Proven, hands-on experience in hydrological modelling within one or more of the following regions: Nordics, Iberia, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy
* Demonstrated track record of building and operating hydro forecasting / water balance models.
Without Professional Experience
* PhD in Hydrology (or closely related disciplines), thesis work or research directly relevant to hydro forecasting.
* Strong quantitative and computational modelling foundations.
