Reporting to the Planning Manager, as a Planner you will work within the Planning & Projects team to achieve local planning permissions or promote major strategic sites through the Local Plan process, planning applications, and appeals. You will formulate planning strategies for sites and implement them once approved. The role requires strategic and short-term thinking.
Your duties will include:
1. Producing initial draft reports for planning applications, appeals, policy representations, and site appraisals.
2. Monitoring planning applications, appeals, and local/neighbourhood plans within specific authorities.
3. Supporting senior planners and project managers with application and appeal preparation, and other planning tasks.
4. Reviewing reports from external consultants and providing feedback.
5. Conducting research to develop strategies for site promotion, allocation, and planning applications.
6. Producing well-researched reports to support site promotion and planning submissions.
7. Attending meetings with landowners and agents to secure new sites.
8. Undertaking site visits and meetings with stakeholders.
9. Managing workload effectively and meeting deadlines.
10. Engaging in public consultations and engagement activities.
11. Supporting Graduate Planners with queries in a positive manner.
What you’ll need to succeed:
1. A Planning degree or equivalent with RTPI or RIC chartered membership.
2. Experience in planning, either in consultancy or local government.
3. Experience with Section 106 agreements.
4. Experience promoting sites through Local Plans and planning applications.
5. Ability to prepare reports supporting planning submissions and site allocations.
6. Research experience supporting project delivery.
7. Understanding of growth drivers at various levels.
8. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
9. Ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
10. Ability to work independently and in a team.
11. Effective time management and organizational skills.
12. Ability to build relationships internally and externally.
