Job Description:
As a member of the team, you will be responsible for delivering Proofs of Concept and prototyping services across the Society. You will collaborate with engineers to increase understanding of technology and inform decisions on its potential use and adoption. You should be comfortable working with various technologies and stakeholders, eager to learn new tools and techniques, and an excellent team player who shares knowledge and engages with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
This role is within the Chief Technology Office, which sets the Society’s technology strategy, manages technology governance, and focuses on future technology needs to deliver our Society Blueprint.
Our team pioneers new tools and working methods within Nationwide, offering an environment of continuous evolution and adaptation.
We support flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best, including hybrid working across our UK estate and home working. You will spend at least two days per week, or 40% of your time if part-time, based at our Swindon or London office.
What you'll be doing
* Delivering Proofs of Concept and prototyping services, configuring and testing new technologies to evaluate their effectiveness and integration potential.
* Driving innovation experiments, from initiation to approval, aligned with our technology strategy.
* Collaborating with engineers to enhance understanding of technology and inform adoption decisions.
* Working with various technologies and stakeholders, continuously learning new tools and techniques.
* Sharing knowledge with colleagues and engaging with technical and non-technical staff across the business.
About you
We seek a Proofs of Concept Software Engineer experienced in diverse technologies and cloud development, with demonstrable expertise in:
* Software development lifecycle, delivery, design, architectural patterns, and industry-standard tools (version control, CI/CD).
* Researching and learning new languages, technologies, and frameworks rapidly.
* Architecting cloud services in AWS or Azure, with broader cloud knowledge preferred.
* Data layer architectures, such as NoSQL (Cassandra/MongoDB).
* Implementing solutions using Docker and Kubernetes.
* Effective verbal and written communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
* Teamwork, mentoring, resourcefulness, ownership, and drive.
