Job Summary
East Sussex County Council is recruiting five experienced and committed Social Workers for its Community Learning Disability Service based in Hastings and Uckfield. The role supports adults with learning disabilities to live independent, fulfilling lives within their communities.
Responsibilities
* Manage complex caseloads and prioritise cases with Court of Protection deadlines and safeguarding needs.
* Act as Lead Enquiry Officer for Section 42 Safeguarding Enquiries under the Care Act 2014.
* Apply the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) in practice, making Best Interests decisions and contributing to community Deprivation of Liberty (DoL) assessments and Court of Protection applications.
* Collaborate with partner agencies, legal teams and health professionals, and attend court as required.
* Potentially apply transferable legal experience such as Mental Health Tribunals or Magistrates Court warrants.
Qualifications
* Registered Social Worker with proven post‑qualifying experience in adult social care.
* In‑depth understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, Best Interests decision‑making and legal authority in tenancy and finances.
* Familiarity with Court of Protection processes and timelines.
* Desirable: BIA training or PEPS accreditation; knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983.
* Proof of resilience and flexibility to manage a dynamic and complex caseload.
* Willingness to travel across East Sussex, including rural areas.

• The post requires an Enhanced DBS check (or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services). Overseas police checks are also required for applicants who have lived or worked abroad.
• Starting salary is pro‑rata if the position is part‑time or term‑time only.
