Role Overview
We are seeking a switched-on, capable Project Manager to lead the delivery of a high-profile earthworks package on a prestigious civil engineering project in Chester. This is a client-facing role requiring strong leadership, clear communication, and hands-on delivery experience, ideally gained within a main contractor environment .
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for programme, safety, quality, and commercial performance, working closely with the client and project stakeholders to ensure successful delivery over the 6-month contract period.
Key Responsibilities
* Take full ownership of the day-to-day management of a major earthworks package
* Act as the primary point of contact for the client, maintaining a professional and proactive relationship
* Lead site teams, subcontractors, and supply chain partners to deliver works safely and efficiently
* Manage programme, resources, and sequencing to meet key milestones
* Ensure strict compliance with HSEQ standards, RAMS, and project procedures
* Monitor progress, resolve issues quickly, and drive solutions on site
* Coordinate with commercial and engineering teams to maintain cost and programme control
* Chair site meetings and contribute to progress reporting
* Identify and manage project risks and opportunities
Essential Experience & Skills
* Proven experience as a Project Manager on earthworks / heavy civils projects
* Strong client-facing capability with confidence managing senior stakeholders
* Background with a main contractor (essential or highly desirable)
* Excellent understanding of earthworks operations, temporary works, and logistics
* Strong leadership and decision-making skills
* Ability to operate independently and deliver under pressure
* SMSTS and relevant CSCS card

* Experience delivering prestigious or high-profile civil engineering projects
* Short-term mobilisation and rapid delivery experience
* Strong planning and problem-solving mindset
