As an arts centre, The Stag operates at weekends and outside of normal office hours. The Stag is open all-year and only closes on Christmas Day. The CEO’s commitment to working flexibly and to this community arts hub will need to reflect this in support of both the business and its people.
Governance: The non-executive board of Trustees administers the Charity and meets normally five or six times per year. All issues are reported to the board for monitoring and subsequent annual external audit. The CEO acts as Company Secretary, organises the non-executive board meetings and is responsible for profit & loss, legal and regulatory requirements and has delegated authority for all matters including all artistic programming, financial management and employment issues.
The Stag operates through a low-risk hall-hire business model. It is not allowed to promote its own shows – it provides the professional facilities for others to hire space and put on shows.
Reporting to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the CEO leads a small, professional and dedicated team (currently 20 employees (17.8 FTE)) boosted with part-time casuals in the box office plus a team of volunteers at events. The CEO will ensure the charity fulfils its mission and achieves its charitable objectives whilst maintaining the strong financial sustainability it now enjoys and without losing any of its ongoing compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
The rôle requires the CEO to a be a BIIAB personal licence holder and to act as Designated Premises Supervisor as well as being the Company Secretary.
The CEO is currently supported by an assistant and two deputies (covering operations and cinema). An ICA qualified accountant (0.2 FTE) assists with the accounts and completes year-end reporting.
