Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) is a fantastic place to work. The service provides a friendly and welcoming environment, developing people, and helping them to reach their goals. As a team our aim is to engage and educate Children and Young People (CYP). It is our desire that the quality of CYP provision is high, safe, engaging and achieves measurable outcomes for the children and young people, the organisation and contributes towards making our communities safer. All CYP activities are centred around a holistic approach to supporting young people and in turn, reducing risk.

The Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate youth worker to join the CYP Team as our Early Intervention (EI) and Education Manager. HIWFRS delivers several targeted education programmes to children and young people. You will be responsible for a number of these programmes. You will be required to manage and evaluate curriculum development of training packages, schemes of work, lesson plans, risk assessments and resources for all CYP programmes, ensuring these meet the requirements of NFCC guidance, key safety messages, and risks identified by the Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) and any funding providers.

You will support 4 direct line reports supporting the delivery of Early Intervention & Education initiatives, including Firewise, across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The FireWise Intervention Programme works with higher risk children and young people up to the age of 18, who have been identified as needing 1:1 support and family intervention, for fire setting behaviours. You would be responsible for line managing the practitioners who deliver these intervention sessions and for overseeing the triaging and closing of all caseloads.

Our EI programmes are designed to work with vulnerable children and young people who are more likely to be at risk of various types of harm, both now and in their future. Our EI programmes help young people to develop resilience, achieve goals, positively impact their community and keep themselves and others safe. You would line manage the practitioners responsible for direct delivery of the programme, supporting in front line classroom delivery as required. You will design a curriculum of personal social and emotional sessions, govern delivery of a qualification, create and implement all risk assessment documentation and ensure all governance around the programme is upheld. You will also line manage the Education Officers, delivering risk-based education in schools across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate confidently and effectively are important along with being able to work on your own initiative in an engaging and imaginative way to promote high-quality delivery. You will be required to drive a Council vehicle and must hold a current full drivers’ licence.
