Job overview

This post requires a skilled and experienced inpatient Physiotherapist who is looking for an opportunity to specialise Critical Care, Respiratory & Surgery and to further develop their Management and Leadership skills within a large Teaching Acute Care Trust.

You will be working within a team of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists who pride themselves in providing high quality care to Critical Care, Respiratory and Surgical wards. You should have past experience in managing critically unwell patients, respiratory patients and Surgical patients. In addition to this you may have the opportunity to gain experience in Neurosurgical Critical Care and paediatrics. You will be available to participate in on-call and weekend duties. This post also requires you to have the flexibility to work cross-site at King George Hospital (KGH).

As a Band 6 and a static member of the team you will be working closely with highly specialised team-members and you will be expected to deputise in the absence of more senior leadership. You will be expected mentor and supervise less experienced staff including students while playing a key role in maintaining good working relationship with our local Tertiary Education Providers.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard of physiotherapy service, facilitating and maximising patient potential within the service boundaries.

To participate in the static ARCCS band 6 rotation which involves working across the Trust (King George Hospital and Queens Hospital) in a range of settings including acute respiratory, critical care, surgery, and vascular ward areas. Alongside your general critical care rotation, you will be required to cover paediatrics with support of the paediatric band 7 Physiotherapists. Additionally, you will also have a rotation through neuro critical care.

To fulfil a teaching and supervisory role with peers, junior staff, and students on placement

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and, in recognition of our progress, we’ve been shortlisted for Trust of the Year at the Health Service Journal Awards.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
