Specialist Teaching Assistant (deaf children)
Scale: 5 (£28,598 - £31,022 pro rata). 34 hours, Full‑Time or two part‑time posts split between two candidates. Includes a paid Wednesday staff meeting to 5pm. Term‑Time only. Permanent. Hearing and Vision Specialist Service, Hardman Centre, Stockport, SK3 0BJ.

Your Role
Support the development, learning and inclusion of deaf children and young people who use speaking and listening and/or BSL signed communication. Work 1‑1 and in small groups, in and out of classroom settings. May involve BSL signed communication support depending on the communication preferences and needs of the children.
About You
Demonstrate keen aspiration to work with deaf children and young people. Experience in deaf education not required; basic background knowledge or strong interest valued. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills essential; minimum British Sign Language level 2. Either deaf or hearing.

Mainly based at our primary resourced provision for deaf children/young people in a mainstream primary school. Potential opportunities to work in other settings in future. Supported by a warm and friendly team: Team leader, Specialist Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People and other Specialist Teaching Assistants. Further professional development opportunities, guidance and training are provided.
