Primary Function
Lead and drive the development of policies and procedures for compliance with regulatory and Crane requirements for trade import and export activities within CPI. Perform random audits to ensure compliance, identify root causes, and implement countermeasures for gaps. Identify risk areas and opportunities to improve compliance and efficiency. Support foreign trade, customs clearance, relations with national and international authorities, and other related parties to leverage preferential schemes and incentives for globally transported products and raw materials.
Reporting Structure
This role reports to the Sr. Director of Finance and Compliance. The role is expected to lead through influence by working with different functions within CPI to drive compliance requirements and initiatives.
Responsibilities and Duties
* Evaluate the efficiency of controls and continuously improve them.
* Collaborate with stakeholder departments to monitor enforcement of standards and regulations.
* Assess potential compliance risks for future ventures.
* Review the work of colleagues to identify compliance issues and provide advice or training.
* Stay abreast of regulatory developments and evolving best practices in compliance control.
* Prepare reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies as appropriate.
* Develop and manage relationships with freight forwarders and customs agents.
* Ensure third-party logistics providers operate in accordance with agreements and company policies.
* Establish complete import/export procedures, standard shipping instructions, and destination profiles for destination countries.
* Partner with other departments to build standard procedures, controls, practices, and systems.
* Develop a skilled regional staff capable of managing international shipments and continually train staff on latest policies.
* Manage export/import license application processes and documentation.
* Interpret and ensure program compliance with export authorizations and risk assessments.
* Develop and implement export/import procedures, self-assessments, and compliance activities.
* Research, interpret, and apply complex government regulations (EAR, Customs Regulations, HTS).
* Serve as the trade compliance subject matter expert for Europe and act as the liaison for CPI UK sites on Customs and Trade Compliance matters.
* Conduct internal audits relating to export and import activities and maintain ERP part master data related to tariff codes and origin.
* Manage SOPs with third-party brokers, including master data and clearance instructions.
* Conduct product classification, country of origin assessments, and verification of preferential origin status.
* Manage Standing Authorities for third parties in CDS and UK export license applications.
* Provide training related to Trade Compliance to CPI UK sites and support the Director of Global Trade Compliance in policy development.
Qualifications
* B.S. or B.A. degree and a minimum of 5–10 years in import/export administration.
* Extensive knowledge of import/export control laws and regulations, including EAR.
