About the Role

Reporting to the Water Project Management Delivery Lead for the UK, the Senior Project Manager will deliver work with water companies or the Environment Agency in the Midlands area. The role offers opportunities for progression across UK water, environment, rail or nuclear sectors.

Location: Midlands‑based. Type: Full‑time. Sector exposure: Water sector.


Key Responsibilities

* Technical Leadership & Delivery – Take full ownership of technical design delivery across wastewater non‑infrastructure projects from mobilisation through to completion, ensuring engineering excellence, regulatory compliance, commercial performance and high levels of client satisfaction.
* Multi‑Disciplinary Design Management – Lead and coordinate multi‑disciplinary design teams (process, civil, mechanical, electrical, ICA, environmental) to deliver large‑scale treatment, network and resilience schemes, often under major AMP programmes with Tier 1 delivery partners.
* Client & Stakeholder Engagement – Build and maintain strong working relationships with water company clients, delivery partners and regulatory stakeholders, ensuring project expectations, statutory requirements and industry standards are consistently met or exceeded.
* Integrated Delivery Across UK & Global Teams – Drive UK‑based design teams to produce integrated, efficient and innovative solutions, fostering a collaborative, digitally enabled, and commercially aware working environment.
* Governance & Assurance Support – Work closely with Project Managers to ensure robust governance across scope, cost, schedule, risk, quality and assurance; support development of design strategies, optioneering, technical reviews and risk mitigation aligned with AMP and regulatory commitments.
* Business Growth & Team Development – Contribute to business growth by supporting client development, identifying new opportunities and shaping future water sector programmes; mentor emerging design managers and engineers.


Role Responsibilities

* NEC3/4 Option A, Option C, Option E ECC contract management and administration client‑side.
* Budget control.
* Collaborate with QS on payment valuations and certifying monthly payments under ECC and PSC forms of NEC4.
* Actual cost forecasting and defined cost determination in collaboration with QS.
* Maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Ensure appropriate project management records and commercial records are maintained in line with contract requirements and oversee contractual issues.
* Investigate and draft contract communications and notices (Early Warning Notices, Compensation Events, General Communications) in line with best practice.


Pre‑Contract Activities

* Conduct initial project scope planning, cost estimates and feasibility studies.
* Prepare tender documentation.
* Evaluate tenders.
* Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
* Collaborate with contractors early in the design phase.


Post‑Contract Activities

* Manage and administer construction contracts.
* Monitor project expenditure and manage cash flow.
* Lead evaluation and negotiation of change orders or variations.
* Claims and dispute resolution.
* Final accounts and post‑project evaluation.


What do we need from you

* Bachelor’s or master’s degree qualification in a numeric degree.
* Full membership of a chartered body such as APM at MAPM.
* Post‑graduate experience in rail, nuclear, water and/or environment.
* Line management and recruitment experience of project managers or assistant project managers.
* Knowledge and experience of CDM regulation.
* Risk management experience.
* Valid CSCS card; Water Hygiene card desirable.
* Main contractor and/or joint venture experience working client‑side.
* Experienced user of NEC3‑4 suite of contracts (A‑C‑E).
* Right to work in the UK.
