Job Purpose
In line with the WVI Disaster Management Standards for global emergencies, this position plays a crucial role in Advocacy & External Engagement for World Vision’s Humanitarian Responses. It involves providing guidance, capacity tools, reporting, and direct support to the responses.
The role includes designing and implementing advocacy and external engagement strategies aligned with overall response priorities, supporting operational and programmatic goals.
The incumbent will develop and execute influencing strategies to shift international policies affecting children and families in crises, especially in fragile contexts, focusing on protecting children’s rights and operational access.
Key responsibilities include representing World Vision with stakeholders, building networks, coordinating with global and regional offices, managing advocacy groups, and tracking humanitarian financing trends.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
* Implement the advocacy & external engagement plan.
* Collaborate with humanitarian advocacy representatives at the UN and other capitals.
* Develop policies, reports, and briefings on the response.
* Advise leadership on advocacy issues and strategies.
Representation & External Engagement
* Represent World Vision to governments, donors, academia, and NGOs.
* Maintain and grow external networks.
* Coordinate with global offices on policy engagement.
Response Operations Support & Impact Reporting
* Lead advocacy groups and participate in leadership teams.
* Support response strategies emphasizing children's rights.
* Maintain mapping of coordination mechanisms.
* Provide strategic advice on advocacy and influence.
* Monitor funding and prepare for funding opportunities.
* Identify and advocate against child rights violations.
* Support impact reporting and regional strategy integration.
* Train and coach staff on advocacy and engagement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* 10+ years of relevant experience, including management and active humanitarian response.
* Postgraduate degree in relevant field.
* Fluent in English; proficiency in a second UN language is a plus.
* Strong understanding of humanitarian law, sector standards, and industry relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
* Knowledge of UN processes and multilingual capabilities.
* Experience managing diverse teams.
* Excellent negotiation, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
* Ability to work under pressure, travel internationally, and operate in challenging environments.
Travel & Work Environment
* International travel required.
* Work hours may exceed 12 hours/day during emergencies.
* Work may occur in insecure or resource-limited settings.
Languages
Fluent in English; additional UN languages preferred; local languages a plus.
