CNC Machinist / Programmer

Salary: Up to £45,000 + Paid Overtime

Were hiring on behalf of a cutting-edge defence and research organisation seeking an experienced CNC Machinist / Programmer to join their advanced prototyping and precision engineering centre in Great Baddow.
This is a unique opportunity for a CNC Machinist / Programmer who thrives in a technically rich, R&D-focused environmentworking on small-batch, aerospace-grade components that support national defence and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacture prototype, R&D, and production components to high precision standards
Programme, set, and run 3-axis CNC milling machines using both CADCAM and manual inputs
Operate manual milling machines and lathes as required
Work closely with engineers and researchers to support manufacturability of bespoke designs
Maintain adherence to internal quality and health & safety procedures
Develop skills toward 5-axis CNC programming and advanced machining setups
Skills & Experience
Experienced CNC machinist with a strong background in 3D CADCAM programming
Confident in programming, setting, and operating varied machine tools
Skilled in manual machining (mills and lathes) alongside CNC tools
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering, with a recognised apprenticeship
Strong problem-solving mindset and self-starting, hands-on approach
Desirable Skills
Experience with aerospace-grade manufacturing and first article inspections
Background in collaborating with engineering teams on Design for Manufacture (DFM)
