Responsibilities
* Support the delivery of a safe and effective clinical trials dispensing service following the principles of good clinical practice (GCP), under the supervision of a senior Clinical Trials Technician.
* Support service provision through the receiving, dispensing, returning and destruction of medicines for use in clinical trials and the maintenance of accurate accountability records for these tasks.
* Work as a key member of a small pharmacy trials team to identify and deliver improvements in pharmacy services.
* Play a vital role in supporting the safe and effective delivery of clinical trials pharmacy services within the Acute Care Division, under the supervision of senior pharmacy staff.
* Ensure investigational medicinal products (IMPs) and non-investigational medicinal products (nIMPs) are received, stored, dispensed, returned and destroyed in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Trust policies.
* Maintain accurate drug accountability records, prepare documentation and labels using pharmacy computer systems, and ensure full audit trails in line with regulatory and data protection requirements.
* Dispense oral and parenteral medicines for patients participating in clinical trials, including cytotoxic drugs, intravenous additives and monoclonal antibodies, using aseptic techniques and specialist equipment such as isolators.
* Carry out cross-checking of prescriptions, worksheets and drug volumes to ensure patient safety, with a focus on accuracy, attention to detail and sustained concentration.
* Communicate effectively with pharmacists, doctors, nurses, research staff and external research organisations, providing routine information within defined limits and escalating complex issues to pharmacists when required.
* Support training of new staff and contribute to service improvement, including developing procedures for new clinical trials.
