Teaching Fellow in Human Factors (MBChB)
Human Factors is a key part of teaching within the MBChB programme, recognised by the GMC as a core topic. It allows clinicians to take a systems based approach to patient safety and healthcare improvement. It is currently taught mainly in years 1-2 using large group teaching/tutorial format. We propose radically redesigning this part of the curriculum, moving much of the teaching into the later years where it can be taught using small groups and simulation, as well as situated within clinical placements.
We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as Teaching Fellow in Human Factors (MBChB) within the Dundee Institute for Healthcare Simulation, to work with on developing and piloting new curricular content within this important area.
This post is full time, funded by NHS ACT. It has a fixed term of one year.
The aim of this post is to provide a trainee, with an interest in education, the opportunity to develop as a medical educator. We envisage this to be a twelve-month post aimed at those who wish to build on their personal teaching experience to develop expertise in educational theory and practice.
Responsibilities
* Assisting with review of current human factors content and design of new curriculum
* Collaborating with Human Factors Scientist to add clinical context and content where needed
* Designing, developing and piloting new teaching sessions (some of which may be simulation focused)
* Reviewing current methods of assessment for human factors and design new assessments for this content
* Developing a plan for evaluation of any new teaching, and disseminate these findings potentially at national meetings
* Participating in the preparation and organisation of the undergraduate core teaching and assessment programme
* Delivering face-to-face teaching including lectures, small group tutorials and clinical teaching in different health care contexts
Who we’re looking for
* Speciality Registrar (ST3+) with a national training number in any medical specialty
