Job Purpose Summary
As our Electrical Maintenance Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring the reliable and safe operation of electrical systems, automated equipment, and production machinery used in the manufacturing of medical sutures. This role ensures compliance with regulatory and quality standards (ISO 13485, FDA, GMP) while supporting continuous improvement in equipment performance, uptime, and efficiency.
What You Will Do
* Equipment Installation & Commissioning – Ensure proper wiring, grounding, and calibration according to engineering standards.
* Maintenance & Troubleshooting – Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical and electronic systems, including motors, PLCs, sensors, control panels, and automated suture production machines. Diagnose and resolve electrical faults to minimise production downtime. Maintain and repair equipment such as braiding machines, extrusion lines, coating units, winders and other production machinery. Support the installation, testing, and commissioning of new production equipment, machinery and electrical panels.
* Facility Electrical Installation, Inspection, Testing and Certification – Handle design & installation of new & replacement electrical systems as per IET Wiring Regulation. Test, inspection & certification of all new or replacement electrical systems. Maintain certification via EasyCert software. Ensure all maintenance activities comply with GMP, ISO 13485 & safety regulations. Maintain records, calibration logs & maintenance documentation. Carry out periodic testing including site emergency lighting & PAT testing. Be aware of company policies, Veeva Quality Documentation. Participate in internal & external audits if required.
* Continuous Improvement – Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, improve energy efficiency. Collaborate with Quality, Production, Validation & R&D to improve machine performance & product quality.
* Other – Work as part of the maintenance & engineering team & contribute to raising its profile. Support engineering & company projects focused on upgrades & process optimisation. May be required to attend callouts to site on occasions or work outside normal hours.
What You Will Need
* Minimum qualification: BS 7671 18th Edition
* Required certifications: C&G 2391-50/51, C&G 2394, or equivalent
* Experience: minimum of 5 years electrical maintenance experience in manufacturing environment; medical devices or similarly regulated industries preferred
* Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, PLCs (Siemens/Allen-Bradley), HMIs, VFDs & control circuits
* Experience with automation & motion control systems
* Ability to read electrical schematics, engineering drawings & wiring diagrams
* Familiarity with cleanroom equipment & medical device production machinery (advantage)
* Strong problem-solving & analytical abilities
* Good communication & teamwork skills
* Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced production environment
